The Wildlife Trusts have a campaign currently to encourage people to move away from using peat based composts in the garden or for house plants.

It takes 1,000 years for 1 meter of peat to form. That’s around 1mm per year!

UK peatlands are home to carnivorous (insect-eating!) plants & many weird & wonderful wild species, yet peatlands are still dug up and damaged.
